In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

Are you struggling to get IHSS benefits in California for your child with autism or another developmental disability? You're not alone—and American Advocacy Group (AAG) is here to help.

Many families don’t realize they may qualify for Protective Supervision under IHSS, which can provide monthly financial support to help you stay home and care for your child. Unfortunately, the IHSS application process can be complicated, confusing, and filled with denials.

That’s where we come in.

What is IHSS?

IHSS is a California government program that provides financial support for in-home caretakers of impaired elders, persons with disabilities, and children with developmental disabilities including ASD. While a variety of benefits are available, the most important for families of children with special needs is “Protective Supervision.” When you are approved for Protective Supervision, you will receive an hourly wage to stay home and care for your child.

At American Advocacy Group, we understand that navigating the IHSS application and approval process can be overwhelming. Denials are common, and many families struggle to prove their child’s eligibility for Protective Supervision. Our team specializes in advocating for your rights, gathering the necessary documentation, and building a strong case to maximize your IHSS benefits.

How to Apply for IHSS

The IHSS application process generally involves a written application, an in-home interview with a social worker, and medical records. Once approved, there will be ongoing assessment. AAG can assist at every stage of this process whether you are a first time applicant or your application was denied.

For first time applicants, our services inlcude:

  • Eligibility review for IHSS and Protective Supervision
  • Strategic planning to maximize IHSS hours and benefits
  • Complete IHSS application assistance
  • Collection of IHSS medical records and supporting documentation
  • Social worker interview prep and representation

Every child with special needs deserves full supervised care, and no family should be turned away. Contact AAG today for a free consultation to determine your best approach.
